Dieting or Exercising - Which one helps you lose weight fast

There are two words that we hear every day to lose weight! 'Diet and Exercise'. You here people say you need to go on such a diet or you need to do more exercises, well in fact you need to do both of these, but doing one of these won't get you the results you are wanting to achieve.

Here is an example of why doing just one of these methods won't necessarily work. Let's take dieting for example, sure if you replace white bread with brown, full fat milk with semi skimmed, peanuts and raisens for chocolate then maybe you will see a small difference in weight but not a significant transformation. The reason behind this is each person consumes between 2,000 calories per day for women, and 2,500 calories per day for men to maintain a healthy balanced diet. Now If say a women who is slightly overweigth cuts down her calories from say 2,600 to 2,200 calories by dieting and cutting out foods high in fat then she is almost at her ideal calories per day but she will not lose any weight. That is where exercising is needed to burn off the extra calories to take her under her ideal calorie intake to say 1,800 calories and she will start to lose weight and in the mean time start to tone up her muscles in the process to give her a good shape.

Here is a simple illustration on the calorie burning process of a person who is dieting compared to a person who is dieting and exercising.

For a woman

Start Calories = 2,600 - dieting 400 calories = weightloss 0% , end of day calories = 2,200

Start Calories = 2,600 - dieting 400 calories - exercising 600 calories = weightloss 39% , end of day calories = 1,600

As you can see from the illustration the top equation results in no fat loss but a reduce in calories but still over the ideal calorie intake of 2000 calories for a woman. Now the bottom equation however shows a total weight loss of 1,000 calories resulting in a 39% weight loss per day. If the woman was to keep this up for quite a period of weeks then the results would be significant and clearly noticed. All the while she will be getting toned and in shape.
